LSASS.exe - System Error

R

Robert

I cannot login to the server (Windows 2003 Server Std Ed. -
not a DNS server) on boot up. Receive an error dialog
box titled lsass.exe - System Error. Security Accounts
Manager initializtion failed because of the following
error: The handle is invalid. Error Status: 0xc0000008.
Please click OK to shutdown this sytem and reoboot into
Safe Mode, check the event log for more detailed
information.

When I reboot in (any) Safe Mode I receive the same error
msg. What can I do to resolve?

Thanks,
Rob

You might try to do a repair/upgrade install as described in KB link below.
You might also try using Recovery Console and then try to copy the files
from the \windows\repair folder to the \windows\system32\config folder after
backing up that folder first. I would try the upgrade installation first
which will require a trip to Windows Update when done but should leave all
your applications intact. Good luck. --- Steve

Have you tried the recovery options ( including using the
Win2k cd, then re-applying your service pack)? what did
you do before this happened? did you install or make a
change to a system setting? if you have a good backup of
the OS plus system state before this happened and nothing
was changed since the backup, one alt. is to restore the
OS dir.
