lpt1 port missing

I could not print to local printer (HP laserjet) and noted that there is
no lpt1 port listed in devices. MB is asusp4s800 -- relatively new --
and has been working fine until today -- suggestions? Thanks.

The first thing to do is to make sure that the parallel
port, LPT1, is already active in bios setup. The next step
would be to install the HP printer drivers for the printer
that is connected to LPT1. And the local printer is for the
parallel port and not an USB port...correct?
