LOTS of Outlook 2003 errors

Mike

It seems that more than half the time after I close Outlook 2003 I get an
error it has generated an error. Event viewer shows this error:

Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 11.0.6353.0, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Not terribly useful, but there it is. I have run detect & repair on Office,
I have ran scanpst on my PST file (no Exchange Server involved). The PST
file is large - over 700mb - but certainly well within the 2gb limit. The
add ins I'm running are pretty simple - Act! 6 extensions, MS Fax
extensions, and Chapura (Pocket Mirror for Palm synchronization).

The problem is getting worse, to the point where I'm concerned I will lose
an email while I'm working on it (it's starting to crash in the middle of
creating email). I have yet to completely remove & reinstall Office, since
I have no clue if that will help or if the underlying problem will not
resurface. Before I waste the better part of a Sunday afternoon doing this
I'd like some clue as to what is causing these crashes or how I can monitor
what's causing them.

TIA,
Mike

Try creating a new mail profile. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Show
Profiles->Add. Do not copy your old profile - it is probably corrupt.
Configure the new profile to use your current .pst file.

I will try this but I'm curious how to prevent this from happening in the
future.

One other thing - and this may be related to the profile, since I don't
think these problems occur with my partner's profile - frequently the
Outlook process will not close when I exit, and I have to end the task
manually to get it to close.

Thanks again for some insight,

Michael Lax
