Lost "show hidden files" facility. TIA

.....as in Tools>folder options>View>do/do not..show hidden files.
Is there any reason (other than trojan action) that this fuction is
disabled? When tried it returns of it's own volition to "Do not
show......"
I did "apply" ....made no difference whatsoever.
Any tips hints info gratefully accepted.
TIA

Are you using any security software, that prevents registry
changes from "sticking"?

For instance, if you have installed Spybot Search & Destroy with
the Tea-timer add-on, you might need to disable Tea-timer before
making changes to your computer configuration .

Bob, I had a problem with "RECYCLER.exe" which "seems" is able to do
this thing (among others) I have, since posting, re-installed Windows
& got the function (hidden files) back. It also caused the "double-
click" on drive letters ie: C, D, which show in My Computer to refuse
the command and give "RECYCLER
\S-1-4-88-100019603-100015245-100016713-2712.COM"
I have managed to get rid of the "drive letter" problem but the
"hidden files" one is still with me. Looks like another installation
of Win XP.

Sorry Bob. The "hidden files" thing WAS ok after the winXP reinstall
but back to square one now with that. :)

A Google search indicates that recycler.exe is a virus.

I'm not sure whether you did a re-format and total reinstall of
Win XP. Otherwise, the infection might still be present.

All is OK now, Bob. I used RegRun Security Suite Platinum 2008 v5.7 &
it winkled out the lot.
I'll keep it handy for a while just in case. :)
"USB Stick Virus causes Windows XP Problems (RECYCLER.exe)"
This software found several related trojans here. Looks good to me.
ATB, Bob. :)
