Lost Photos

I was trying download pictures from my camara to my computer for the first
time using XP. Normally when I put in the memory card my computer
automatically goes to photo software that is installed however, this time I
had to open the card with windows explorer. When I was trying to copy the
images from the card to appropriate folder I lost 95% of my photos they are
no longer on my memory card nor on the computer. I actually stopped the
copying process and tried to open the card with the photo software that I
have (so I wouldn't lose any photos). That's how I realize the photos were
gone. 1) does anyone know where the temporary file for these could be and
2) how can I make sure that the default for my memory card is set for the
software that is installed

Maybe the software at the following link
would help to recover the images from
your memory card.

I don't know what caused the issue you are
describing but would wonder if the camera's
batteries had anything to do with it.

Anyway...I would suggest that using a USB
card reader may be a better way to download
your images.
