Lost OE and Outlook info on XP Pro Install

Guest

I installed XP Pro (after uninstalling XP Home). I reinstalled Office XP
Standard. I had to set-up my Outlook Express Accts again (both my Hotmail and
my ISP email accts. had been in OE -- my ISP email acct alone had been in
Outlook). The old hotmail messages appeared in OE, but only the new ISP
email appeared (since the install). I also have no Address Book in OE and no
old info in Outlook - Calendar, Contacts, tasks, emails. How can I get the
info I need to be in OE and Outlook?

Did you back up your OL data before uninstalling XP Home, installing XP Pro
and reinstalling Office?

In WinXP, OE data is marked as hidden by default. To view these files in
Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control
Panel>Folder Options>View.

Old ISP Mail Messages:
Your old OL data would be stored in a PST file. If it survived, it would be
found by searching in Explorer (WinKey+F) for "*.PST" [w/out the quotes].
To import the data in the PST file into OE, the file must be the PST file OL
is currently using, then OE File>Import>Messages>MS Outlook>...

Address Book Issues:
You have no (OE) Address Book or there's nothing in it? Assuming the
latter, export your OL contacts to a CSV file and then use Address Book
File>Import<Other address book to import the CSV file.

Chances are that Address Book was automatically configured to share contacts
with OL so you'd best disable the sharing before attempting the import:

Start > Run > Regedit > OK > navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

If sharing is enabled, you will see a DWORD entry named 'UseOutlook' in the
right-hand pane with a value of one (1). Change the value to zero (0) to
disable sharing. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and don't
alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.
