lost modem

after installing sp2 my system informed that it had no modem attached to it
which is not true I have tried reinstalling and updating the drivers,
removing hardware and reinstalling. This has happened before afterinstalling
sp2 but I didnt make the link last time, only cured it with a new
installation of xp on an old 20gig drive it found the same modem installed it
seamlessly!! until I made the mistake of trying sp2 again. computer is
amd2400 on an ecs k7s5a modem is a conexant 56k pci v.92 with cx11252-11
chipset can anyone help ?

Check with the manufacturer to verify SP-2 compatibility.
Make sure you have the latest Windows XP modem drivers.
Reseat the modem after SP-2 installation.
Try the modem in a different slot.

Otherd hsvr posted similar problems. One possible solutuion: Install SP1
first and then SP2.

No, there is absolutely no reason to install SP-1 before installing SP-2.
