Lost excel file

I was in the process of finishing a drawing and database in excel when the
power went out for 14 hours. I can not locate the file. I had started with
a blank worksheet so it was default named Book 2. When I rebooted, it did
not reopen automatically nor do I see it listed in the Document recover
window. There is a listing of another Book2 but that is not the file. I do
have auto save enabled every 5 minutes and had the file open for a few hours.
Help!!!

Look in Tools>Options>Save
Look at the 'Autorecovery Save Location' textbox. Your file should be in
the folder listed in that textbox. If it isn't, you've probably lost the
file.
You could also do a ChkDsk to see if a file is created. It would have a
name something like FILE0000001 in the root directory of your drive. If one
is created, try renaming it by adding a '.xls' extension and try pulling it
up.

Gary, Thanks for the prompt reply. I did not find it in the autorecovery
save location (had to even find that! running office 2007 and Vista) Was not
sure how to do chkdsk function etc. Could you explain? Again thanks for
your help!

I don't know Vista but in Windows XP, I would go to the Start menu, select
RUN, type in 'cmd' (without the quotations). This gets you to DOS. Type
'chkdsk' (without the quotations). Type 'exit' to get out of DOS. Check
for the file using Windows Explorer. Mind you, this most likely will not
work but it is an option.
