Loss of network connection

I run XP Home with service pack2 on my HP Pavilion 724c.
I also run windows 98 on a compaq Presario.
The two computers are networked using an arlotto auto-
sensing 10/100 Mbps
So that my wife and I can both surf at the same time. Our
server is Yahoo through IE.
Recently I downloaded the new Microsoft Anti spyware
(beta). Which I am very pleased with. It does a wonderful
job. However it seems to have eliminated something
needed for my ICS (internet connection sharing) because
my machines no longer connect with one another.
I have automatic Microsoft updates but I believe that
this Spyware program could view them as dangerous. How
can I tell which to eliminate?
Can you tell me what I should do rectify the
situation? I installed Microsoft Anti spyware (beta) on
Jan 8, 2005. Would you advise using system restore back
to the day before installation of the Spyware program?
Thank you,
Frank Bouley

Rather than using System Restore, I'd suggest the following:

1) restore Internet connectivity on the ICS host machine (yours), via the
information in this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350

You may then, need to:
2) run the Network Setup wizard to reestablish your computer as the one
which connects to the Internet and through which other machines
connect--i.e, re-establish Internet Connection Sharing.

On XP SP2, the instructions involve a three word command.

Running the wizard involves reading and choosing correctly from among three
choices, as I recall, and picking the correct interfaces for the Internet
connection and the LAN connection to the other machine. Not too daunting, I
hope.
