Losing work in Powerpoint

I am working on Windows Vista for Business and Office 2007. When developing
Powerpoint presenations sometimes I have to save them as Powerpoint 2003 (to
give to my client). However I now have four separate occasions where the file
I have created has not been saved and the document has reverted to an earlier
version. I am careful with naming conventions - I have auto save every 10
mins but this is still happening. Also every time I exit Powerpoint I get an
error message saying Powerpoint has stopped working and it trys to restart
it? Not sure if these issues are connected but the loss of work is now giving
me huge cause for concern. Any ideas?

Hi Roger

A few thoughts:
- sometimes backsaving to '03 takes a long time - does a message box appear
saying something like 'saving press escape to cancel'?
- some versions of Vista have a 'restore previous version' on right click of
a file - does that help?
- autosave is about auto-recovering files if PowerPoint crashes *not*
actually saving the file automagically (AFAIK)
- you may want to look at Shyam's sequential save add-in:
http://skp.mvps.org/seqsave.htm
- as for the crashing, have a look at this:
PowerPoint 2007 text editing slow, text cut off, text display or formatting
problems, print, crash problems
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00850.htm
- if that doesn't help run detect & repair

Hope that helps

Lucy
