Losing Database conection after reboot

I've created a website using FP2003 which connects to various access
databases some of which are editable. I had problems with creating the
editable databases through FP as they wouldn't work properly something to do
with creating a subsite casing all other databases to point to another
folder, the only way i could get round this was to create some pages in FP
and then alter them with some manual to do what FP should have done
automatically.

(MY PC is running the website)

Everything was going smooth until i had my PC switched off for a couple of
hours, this caused all the Database connections to mess up again and they are
seen to be in different folders. Previously Everything was ok after a re-boot
of my PC but for some reason not this time. However if i reverify all
databases except the last one i made up (one of three editable databases) it
works ok, but if i reboot my PC it will kill all the connedtions again. As
far as i can see there is nothing that is changing in the Global.asa file
that is changing to cause this. but it is obviously some sort of config file
that is not loading correctly after a reboot.

Anyone any ideas?

Or even better can anyone tell me how to get the Automated version of the
editable database working in my existing site, without requiring a subsite.

Why do i not want it in a subsite? when doing updates one site is easier to
manage than one with many subsites.

Did you set the application name and starting point in IIS, by right clicking the folder
containing the database, selecting properties and going to the directory tab and then
clicking Remove and then reset for the application name?

Actually it wouldn't be the folder containing the database, it would be the sub web that you
right click.

I'm not using the subweb method as it is causing me to many problems, i've
built the editable databse using a mixture of FP and manual input, which
works fine until i re-boot, whereas the Subweb method just screws everything
up from the start.

Maybe it's just me (a little thick) but how do i access IIS, i assumed that
FP would handle everything.

FP will only "handle everything" if you use FP to do everything
(not your manual input workaround)
- it is apparently the undescribed manual workaround that is causing the errors

Stefan i believe we have had this discussion before, where i created an
editable database using FP DBW in an entrely new website, it creates it in a
subsite, and then when i go to use it it doesn't function. If i create a new
site again and try to publish in the existing site it still doesn't work,
therfore as you suggested i had to do a manual workaround, but to cut out
some of the time i used FP to do the basics and changed some details.

Again the problem is only after i re-boot, i have three editable databases,
two of which Never caused any problems after my manual intervention, now that
this one is added it starting to act up again, i have double checked and
tripple checked everything that i have learned so for form the experts (you
being one of them).

If the database connections die, to sort them i go into site settings/
database (tab) and re verify the databases, then publish, everything is fine.

All databases are within the fpdb folder in the main site directory.

If i re-boot for some reason the website thinks that the databases have
moved into the directory where the HTM page that views the results is.

= C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\TestEng (to save me typing it out over and over)

These are only for viewing the databases, i'd imagine for the resukts that
are being submitted that it would be expecting the database to be in the
folder that the submission page is in.

IIS is always going to create the database in a subsite of Default Web Site, that's just the
way it works.

Once you have created the database web, and verified the database, either:
Right click My Computer on the desktop and select Manage, or
go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Services Manager.
In the panel that opens, click the plus by Internet Information Services
( or the user name depending upon how you got there ) and Default Web

Right click the folder that contains your new database web and select properties.
On the dialog that opens, click the Directory tab ( if it didn't default to Directory )
On the Directory panel under "When connecting to this resource, the content should come
from"
Check "The designated directory"

Then under Application Settings if the directory name for your new web does not show in
Application name,
click Remove on the right side. Then when it's available click Reset.
The folder name for your new web should now show for Application name.

Click Apply, and then click OK and close the IIS MMC.


IIS and your database web will live happily ever after.

Thanks Steve, i tried this yesterday, there was nothing showing under
Applicatin Name, so clicked remove, clicked create, and it filled in my
directory name, Apply, Ok. Shut everything down, re-booted my PC and it still
came up with the database errors.
I did check the IIS again, everything was fine. i still think that some file
is changing after re-booting.

I still think it's a config issue.
I'll try comparing the Global.asa file before and after a re-boot on the
webside.

Have noticed something that may or maynot be relevant

Within the Global.asa file there is a set of <mso:connectionstatus> tags at
the bottom within the tags it lists all the connection names equial to a
number

i.e. Connection=1 OtherKonektion=1

I've found that the site works if the number is 1 and doesn't work if any of
the connections have the number 2.

Does this help any?

I've managed to get a way round the problem.
Instead of using the DBIW to create an Editable database, i created each
page individually, and missed out the code that i didn't require.

Previously the problem was always caused by the update page, to get round
that i created the page as a standard query with the DBRW to view the results
of only the fields that i want to edit, then edited query to update within
the webbot tags.

now i don't have a problem, even when i add other databases or other
editable databases, they all work within the one website with no requirement
for subsites.

If you want a more detailed explanation of what i did to solev this issue
let me know.

IIS is always going to create the database in a subsite of Default Web Site, that's just the
way it works.

Once you have created the database web, and verified the database, either:
Right click My Computer on the desktop and select Manage, or
go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Services Manager.
In the panel that opens, click the plus by Internet Information Services
( or the user name depending upon how you got there ) and Default Web

Right click the folder that contains your new database web and select properties.
On the dialog that opens, click the Directory tab ( if it didn't default to Directory )
On the Directory panel under "When connecting to this resource, the content should come
from"
Check "The designated directory"

Then under Application Settings if the directory name for your new web does not show in
Application name,
click Remove on the right side. Then when it's available click Reset.
The folder name for your new web should now show for Application name.

Click Apply, and then click OK and close the IIS MMC.


IIS and your database web will live happily ever after.

Stefan i believe we have had this discussion before, where i created an
editable database using FP DBW in an entrely new website, it creates it in a
subsite, and then when i go to use it it doesn't function. If i create a new
site again and try to publish in the existing site it still doesn't work,
therfore as you suggested i had to do a manual workaround, but to cut out
some of the time i used FP to do the basics and changed some details.

Again the problem is only after i re-boot, i have three editable databases,
two of which Never caused any problems after my manual intervention, now that
this one is added it starting to act up again, i have double checked and
tripple checked everything that i have learned so for form the experts (you
being one of them).

Al....

FP will only "handle everything" if you use FP to do everything
(not your manual input workaround)
- it is apparently the undescribed manual workaround that is causing the errors
