site accessability

i've created a website where myself and collegues can add data to databases
and view the results using different query's, there has been a few testing
moments along the way and i've lost a significant amount of hair to.

Anyway to the problem, I've been told that the website is no longer for our
departments use, it is going to go live for the whole of the companty to view
if they wish, however as we all know people like to play aroung with things
especially if it is inputting data, so i've been asked to protect the data
input pages.

So far the only way that i can see this being done is to put the data pages
within a subsite and set the permissions on this subsite to only allow
certain users, this is fine, however the data view pages dont work. I've
resetup the database connections and FP lets me use the results wizard to
connect to them but when it's published it doesn't work.

So to the questions.
1) Can i only get protection by creating a SUBSITE and setting permisions,
or is there another way.

2) Assuming i have to create the subsite, why does the results pages not work?

3) why is the sky blue?

This did work for me, had to make a few changes to get to work in my site,
mainly URL's. also managed to use the UID (user name) to be stored with every
database entry.
