lose internet access after installing sp4

I recently had to rebuild my Win2K box. After downloading and
installing sp4 from windowsupdate I lose my Internet access.

If I uninstall sp4 access is back again. I attempted to install sp3
and the same thing happens.

I've seen other posts regarding this issue but haven't seen any fixes
posted. It's probably something simple but I've yet to figure it out.

Any help?

I'd start by looking for updated device drivers for your hardware but do
NOT get any from M$ - go to the manfs' websites.

Turns out there was some conflict with my firewall software ZoneAlarm.
I shut down ZoneAlarm and could access the web. Fired ZoneAlarm back
up and expected access to be down but surprisingly it was still up.
Not sure why but, hey, it worked.

Anyone else having this problem, try temporarily disabling any
firewall software as a test.
