Looking for official docs saying that Defender is not for corporat

Hi,

I need to find some official documentation on Microsoft's site stating that
Windows Defender is not for corporate networks, with reasons why it should
not be installed. I've found a lot of info in these newsgroups thus far, but
I have yet to find any official documentation that I can cite if I need to.

Specifically, I'm looking for proof that WD blocks certain Group Policy
settings as spyware, and that Microsoft doesn't support it in a corporate
environment.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

I don't think you'll find such documentation, because Windows Defender is
supported for genuine Windows licenses. Running WinDefend in a corporate
environment is perfectly fine - the Forefront recommendation is for those
that want a _centrally managed_ solution, which WinDefend is not designed to
be. But if you're not concerned with all the stuff that Forefront adds
(which is substantial - AV definitions, OnAccess protection, lots of GP
control, management console, reporting, configurable UI, and more) and have
an AV solution already, WinDefend can work well.

WinDefend will detect certain GP settings as unknown changes if so
configured, and will detect GP settings when spyware is using them. So
users could possibly use WinDefend to stop GP from setting policy run keys,
for example, which could be quite a headache for admins.

HTH,
Joe
