Looking For A Book On Software

John

Hello:

I have finished a online course in A+ Certification, which was self
taught. I would like to follow up and continue on with my studies in
software but in the area of a software but as a software techie. Here in the
United States we have what is know as a Best Buy Geek Sqaud tech that deals
with the subject of computer repair and virus removel. I would still like to
continue with self instruction in computers. So, would anybody in the
Microsoft News Group Community know of a hands on book where I could learn
about this particular area of software? If possible please include tittle
and author or any other pertinent information in discovering this book in
this new avenue. Thank you John.

John, go to the local library or Barnes and Noble. It's hard to give
you a recommendation on such a general topic. If you are interested in
Malware and Virus Removal last time
I went to the library they had a whole section on that topic.

Hello John:

Since you have demonstrated interest and abilities, I believe you
should see what is offered at the Staten Island Community College.
The instructors are usually employed in the fields they teach and can
give you a recommendation to local businesses after you have more
training.

And if John happens to live in, say, Outer Mongolia...?

Three points:

1. The Geek Squad is one of the very worst sources of technical
support. If you plan on modeling yourself after them, I strongly urge
you to set your sights *much* higher. Personally, I would never trust
any member of the Geek Squad, and I would never recommend that anyone
else do so either.

2. The subject of "software" is extremely broad. There are many
sub-areas within it, and I have no idea where your specific interests
lie, so I none of us can begin to recommend any books. Do you want to
write software? In what language? What kind of software? Operating
systems? Applications? For what platform? Do you want to support
software? What software? For what platform? Etc., etc., etc., etc.,
....

3. A+ certification is very greatly overrated by those who respect it.
Although some people with A+ certification know their stuff, most of
them do not.

Do a web search for Computer Repair and virus removal. I used Google which
returned about 2,420,000 English pages for computer repair and virus
removal. I used Window live search which returned around 4,460,000 results.
I would only review the first 20 and go to those web sites and take a look.
You just might find what you are looking for without incurring any cost on
your part.

Good Luck

Anytime you get that many hits, there's no telling whether the info you
want will be in the first ten, 20th page, 50th page, or even at the very
end of the list; unless it pops up right on top of the list, that many
hits often makes the search useless, meaning it needs to be narrowed
down a lot.

When you get gazillions of hits like that is when you need to start
streamlining your search terms by ignoring certain things, requiring
certain others, not caring about some, etc. etc.. See the Advanced
Search settings or similar name for whatever search engine you're using.
Normally you can put together a list of terms that are boolean in nature
and will leave out a lot of the junk you're not interested in and keep
what you are interested in: +, -, quotes, and combinations of the above
are very useful in searches to narrow down your search. See the search
Help areas.

Twayne`
