Log on problem after migrating from NT to 2000 server

Q

Quincy

Hi

My network included one NT PDC and one BCD. I just
upgraded my NT PDC to 2000 AD when the PDC was off line.
However, after the upgrade, the windows 2000 professional
clients can not log on to the new 2000 AD controller.

The error message says that there's no domain log-on
controller available to log on. Is it possible that afer
the upgrade, the SID established between the old NT PDC
with the clients have been changed?

The point is the clients cannot recognize the new 2000 AD
controller. The network connection is fine and DNS is set
up on the 2000 AD controller.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by " I just upgraded my NT PDC to 2000 AD when the PDC was
off line."
Where does the W2K DC point for DNS. Make sure the W2K pro machines point to
the same DNS server.

Hi Richard,

I mean that after I synchronized the NT PDC and BDC, I
removed the NT PDC from the LAN and upgraded it to 2000 AD
controller.

The W2K DC point to itself (its own IP address) for DNS
because it is a DNS and the client points to the W2K DC.
The W2K DC is not connected to the internet. I only test
by connecting the clients to the W2K DC through a hub.

One thing I just find out is that I set up a new 2000
professional computer, and this computer has never been
added to that NT domain and it has never connected to that
NT domain. I use it to logon the 2000 AD controller and
it can log on with any account that created when the
controller was an NT PDC. Meanwhile the client computers
that used to connect to the domain cannot recognize the
new 2000 AD controller.
