Log of deleted item over a WIn 2000 network

Hi

I have a win 2000 network and I am getting more and more frustrated as
people are deleting items off the network drives and I am having to restore
them. I don't always know which user has deleted them and I am trying to find
a way, either to have a log of which user deleted which file, including the
path or alternatively be able to set it up so that the deleted files are
retained somewhere ie the recycle bin for a set period of time and then
deleted. This would then save a lot of time so instead of having to do a
restore I could restore it from windows very quickly and also inform the
culprit not to do it again :( Can anyone help me?

1. Don't give users permission to delete things they shouldn't delete.
Deleting is separate from Writing.

2. You can enable auditing and then audit the files for deletions.
