Locks up for first few minutes

Hi,
Using xp home. After booting up, if I try to use My computer within 10
minutes of boot up, the contents of my pc i.e. c: drive a:drive etc aren't
displayed. All I get is the little torch with a light on, looking for the
kit. The program then seems to lock for a few minutes before unlocking
itself. If I try the same thing after the pc has been on for approx 10- 15
minutes after boot-up, everything is ok.
A similar thing happens if I use IE soon after boot-up. The browser displays
my homepage ok, but if I try to use the pull down list of recently visited
sites, again the pc seems to lock for a moment or two before unlocking. If
left for 10 - 15 after booting up it works fine. Thanks.
