Locking Pictures from being downloaded

Sorry, late in the game on this thread. Need someone to try
this one. After you have the picture, convert it to another
image format and then see if the 'protection' was still
there. I tried a program that hides files in BMP images and
it was lost after a conversion to JPG and back.

: Interesting, especially the post from Jack
: stating that the watermark was still there even
: after a print screen and saving in a different format.
: Sounds like a combination of steganography
: and digital signing.

: thing is that you had no idea it was there! If I found
: you using one of my

: I would be able to
: easily prove that the image was copyrighted by me and not
: redistributable or
: reusable.

Mike,

The watermark is not something that's added to a header or added with an
external file or anything. It is added to the pixels in the image. It
doesn't matter what format it's in.

If you save the image a couple of times in JPG format, you will experience
enough image loss that the watermark may be damaged. Remember, I used
medium setting when I encoded it. That means that it is not as durable as
it could be. The point is that you have to degrade the image quality to the
point where you wouldn't want to use the image anymore before the watermark
is gone.

IIRC Digimarc claims that if you print the image, I could scan the hard copy
and still retrieve the watermark. I don't know if that's true, but if it is
that's a pretty cool feature.
