Locked folder after repair of XP

Hi
I had a problem with XP not able to get in and repaired from the XP disk.
Works OK but- my son had a user account in his name with a password. He
cannot get into his folder ( Freds Documents) as the system says access
denied.
We tried setting up a profile again with the same user name and password but
the system will not let him.
Is there any way to get access to this folder?
He has a record deal with a company online and the songs he recorded are in
that folder and not backed up!!
Any help appreciated
Thanks

You can try taking ownership of the folder. Take a look at
these articles for info on taking ownership.

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

Note: If you installed XP Professional, the first thing you
need to do is disable simple file sharing. To do this go to
Control Panel and open Folder Options. In Folder Options, click
on the View tab. In the Advanced Settings box, scroll to the
bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing. Click OK.

Note: If you installed XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck

It's called Taking Ownership.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

This is all you'll need to do, *unless* this is XP Pro - the next potential
issue can't happen under XP Home. If it's XP Home, you can stop here.

Some people *also* choose to encrypt folders and files to ensure privacy,
and this is available in XP Pro (not in XP Home). It works great and it's
very easy to invoke. Unfortunately, many people *fail* to complete the
task and export the account credentials. Without those, after an event
where the account is damaged or changed in many ways, the data is
permanently lost. Having the username and password will not help in any
way. All you can do is move on. Encrypted backups are also inaccessible.

If encryption was invoked and the credentials *were* backed up, you simply
import the credentials after Taking Ownership and you have the data again.

Hopefully, all you have to do is Take Ownership.
