Local area connection..cannot look at properties.

Jason

Windows 2K, SP4.

Right click on the only local area connection and select
properties...I get the error "an unexpected error
occurred".

The machine runs fine, I can see everything using
ipconfig, but I need to change the gateway in the
properties.

Any thoughts?

I thought about deleting the local area connection and
just add a new one..but what if I cannot just add a new
one...the box would be dead, not a good thing on this live
mail server.

I thought about just disabling it, but what if I cannot
enable it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad driver, but could be a number of things. Have your
checked the event logs? Have you tried simply rebooting? BTW, you should
be able to change the gateway in the registry as a workaround; just navigate
to: HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\tcpip\parameters\interfaces

Might still require a reboot
