"loading your personal files" takes forever

Mike

Hey all, im having this problem, hopefully someone here
can help me. I have an AMD 2600xp, 512 of ram, 80gig hd.
When I start the computer it boots pretty fast into
windows. Once i get into windows I click on a user and
logon, from this point it takes almost 2 minutes to get
to the desktop for me to do anything! Just a few days ago
it would only take a matter of 2 or 3 seconds. I havn't
installed any new software in the last few days, it just
started doing this. Does anyone have any suggestions
please?

try running a disk check by right clicking on your hard drive in 'my
computer', selecting 'tools' and 'disk checking'

tick the box for fixing errors and restart.

see if this helps. if not, get back on here to the same thread.

Thanks for responding, I tried that, and there was no errors on the harddisk. Its still doing the same thing. It does it when I click on either profile on my computer. But only when I boot up. If I use one profile, then a few hours later i switch to the other one, it only takes a few seconds, or if I log off all the profiles and log back on, it only takes a few seconds. Any suggestions?

To start with, it's not loading your personal "files", it's loading your personal SETTINGS -- a VERY different thing altogether

This applies to all the different user account settings and settings for all programs you have loading upon loading windows

The more programs and settings windows has to deal with upon startup, the longer it is going to take

Defragging might speed this up a little.

what about 'sfc /scannow' ??

have you tried that?

you will need the xp cd handy.

Hello ther

I have had the same problem on my machine, I think your problem is related to Spyware/spam issues
after installing ad-aware in depth scanning, on everything( time consuming), the slow startup from a user is gone. it takes only 1-2 sec now
Also let your antivirus make a total check on all files

It made my machine go perfect again
