little box with red x

it's probably been asked a 1000 times, I've been watching, but haven't seen
anything in regards to it.
some pages on web browser, IE6 gives me the little box with the red x in it.
there must be some setting that I am missing.
also sometimes, when I right click, show picture, it changes to the little
box with the red square, blue diamond, and green circle for a half second,
then back to the red x in a box.
any help?

This worked for me. If you have Acrobat or Acrobat Reader open it up and go
to Edit > Preferences > General > Internet... and uncheck the box that says
"display pdf in browser.
