Lite-On DVD Burner SOHW-1673SX

I recently installed the abovementioned DVD burner on my HP Pavilion PC.
During the installation, i noticed some error messages . Following the
installation, I rebooted my PC and noticed the "found new hardware" icon
message. This appeared twice followed by the Welcome to Add New Hardware
Wizard". As no CD Rom came with the burner other than Power DVD and Nero
software I hit "next". The Wizard searched and came back unable to install.
Then a further icon error message appeared saying "an error occured during
installation . the hardware may not be working properly". I then went to
Device Manager clicked on the burner drive (f drive) and the message "device
is working properly appeared".

I proceeded to use the DVD burner successfully over the following weeks
however the error messages persisted every time i started the computer
casuing at least 2 or 3 minutes delay on start up.

My IT area at work advised me the problem was only due to missing drivers. I
checked on the Lite-on WEB site and read that for Windows XP ( which is what
i have on my PC) no special drivers are required as Windows XP will
automatically install the USB Adapter cable. As my HP Pavilion did not come
with a Windows XP CD rom, I was then given a Windows XP SP2 CD Rom and told
to place that on the drive as soon as the Wizard appeared next time I booted
the machine. I did this and nothing happended i.e. the same error messages
persist.

However since then, my DVD Burner (F drive) will now only play DVD's but not
burn them and my E drive ( the CD Burner/DVD combo that came with the PC
originally) does not recognise any disk .

I have rechecked Device Manager and it says both my E and F drives are
working properly. when I click on drivers on f drive is says "No driver".

Can anyone help as i have run out of ideas.

Try uninstalling the DVD drive from Device Manager, with the SP2 CD in the CD-ROM drive. Windows should go ahead and detect the device then, if it doesn't then press F5 to refresh the Device Manager display. Not positive, but I think Windows will reinstall the drive using the drivers from the CD.
