I'm using Windows XP and would like to get a printed list of all the folders on my machine together with the size of each folder. Separately, I would like to be able to print a list of the files in each folder and the size of each file.

Is it possible to do this? If so, please could someone explain how to do it.

Thanks

I'm not sure how to go about doing this, but I can tell you that the list would no doubt be HUGE. Is there something you are trying to achieve by doing this, as I might be able to advise on that aspect :)

I'm trying to identify what is eating up space on a hard disk. I've emptied the recycle bin, deleted temp files, defragged, etc. but still have only about 300mb left on a 120gb drive. I suspect that some of it is due to duplication of RAW and JPEG files with one set being in a directory name that I don't associate with photos. So my thought was to identify the big folders to start with and to look in them.

Reason for wanting to list files at a later stage is to try and eliminate duplications.

Remove duplicate files:

But i'd suggest you might have some kind of virus..What AV are you using, have you done any AV scans.?

Trend micro Housecall:

Supperantispyware:

Kaspersky online scanner:

Run those and see what happens..What AV are you using..?

OK, there's a much easier way to do this then :)

To find large files, use the search button on the start menu and set up the advanced options to search your entire drive for all files above say 100MB, this will list anything large so you can inspect it manually. You might need to enter "*.*" as the file name to search, I can't remember how it works in XP.

Then, to locate duplicate files you can use something like this:
http://www.download.com/Duplicate-Cleaner/3000-2248_4-10584403.html

Much easier :D

Thanks for this - these duplicate finding programmes are doing the job. It is as I thought, huge RAW files have been saved several times over with differing names. Will tidy up and then see what space there is.
