They offered it for free a little while ago (a week or two?)
Someone posted directions in here on how and where to get it.

I agree, last week someone gave detailed directions on how to download
it for free. Of the distros I've tried (Knoppix,Mandrake,Xandros)
Linspire is the easiest to use and the most responsive on my machine.
Set-up was easier than windows and it didn't mess up my boot partition.
I suppose that the free download of Linspire will time out after a
period of time, but hands down the easiest to use for someone like me.
Linspire does Linux right in my book.

I agree. While I do not plan on using it, it was the easiest. I stated
in another thread that I think I filled in the PC name and a PW and
clicked 2-3 times. SUPER easy.

Another thing I like about Linspire is that you can post in the
"Community Forums" as a guest without being a member, with really basic
questions and they walk you through your problem step by step without
posts making me feel like a cement head because I don't know how to use
a command line/console and knowing the file system setup (kind of like
Windows newsgroups with their MVP's), no flames, put-downs, or name
calling like in other linux newsgroups .

No, I'm not on commission either, but for someone like me that started
on a Mac and migrated to Windows and being able to do everything with a
mouse because Mac/Windows makes it that easy, it's refreshing to find a
linux distro that is easy and holds your hand while you are going
through the learning curve on a new OS. Odds are, when this free cd
expires, I'm going to stay with Linspire.

they still offer free version
look around

I got an email from them with complete instructions about downloading it
from their FTP server, without jumping through all the hoops.

"Congratulations on guessing the secret code to get a free copy of
Linspire! We hope that you've had a chance to download it. If you haven't,
then now is a great time, because we've just opened up our FTP servers as a
way to get Linspire using this code (in addition to using the BitTorrent
network).

To download Linspire from our high-speed FTP servers, just follow these
simple instructions:

1. Log into your account at http://my.linspire.com
2. Click the link at the top of the page that says "Click here to enter
your My Downloads area"
3. Find the "Linspire 4.5 Installation CD" and click the link that says
"Download from Linspire.com"
4. Read the on-screen instructions and then click "proceed with
download""

From their website...

You won't be charged the $4.95 monthly membership fee during your Trial

Well it isn't as I'm downloading my copy as I write.

However, it's a bit complicated.

1. Register with Inspire (free, and easy) at:

https://shop.linspire.com/shopping/shopping_cartcontents.php?addItem=Array

2. Go to a German site

http://www.pcwelt.de/news/software/39287/

Then translate it into English.

3. In the 3rd paragraph click the link where it says: "If you visit
*this* order website." It shows you as having ordered the Bittorrent
ISO at $49.50

4. Click "Apply Coupon"

5. You might get two choices -- Linspire 4.5, or BitTorrent-Only Isos or
just the BitTorrent-Only Isos

6. In either case, in the box beside the BitTorrent-Only Isos option
type lindows (lower case L)

7. Click "update". That should reduce the balance tol $0.

8. Then click "Continue".

9. Then click "checkout" and then "process order now".

10. Then click "continue" again which takes you to a page saying "Sign
up for a free trial.

11. Click "My products" on the left

12. Click "CD downloads"

13. Assuming you want to download from an ftp server rather than using
the Bittorrent program, you must now cick the line that says "Linspire
4.5 Installation CD (Bittorrent)".

14. Click "proceed with download"

That takes you to a page with two ftp ownload options, which should be
straightforward enough.

Well I said it was complicated. Good luck!>>>

Cheers!

Neo you won't have to...

3. In the 3rd paragraph click the link where it says: "If you visit
: *this* order website." It shows you as having ordered the Bittorrent
: ISO at $49.50

The <<only link>> in the third paragraph is:
"Bestell-Website"

If you READ the post there could hardly be any error.

(sigh)
