Hi,
i am writing a technical paper. i have list of references at the end
of the paper which i have would like to reference with the words thats
looks logical to me while writing the paper. Once the paper is finally
done, i want the references in the text and in reference be numbered
sequentially. it is much easier in Latex.i am used to word, is it
possible to do..anyone can suggest it. i want to exactly as done in
Latex for citation.
best regards
kristo

Why not just insert endnotes as you go? The notes will renumber themselves
as required.

Can i do exactly like in latex. i put [ref1] in my text and in my
biblography i have
[ref1] author 1,working with microsoft word,2000.
and i do something to link and it automatically fits ref1 with
corresponding number as it fits in the text.

is it possible?
thanks.

It's not clear whether you want endnotes or numbered references (listed
alphabetically). If the former, use endnotes. If the latter, see

sorry for not being clear. my aim so to create a flexible reference
citing. i have a lst of references in any order. i have put short
names to them rather than a number. i cite these references in any
order in my text. my wish is to order these references as per their
first occurance in the text and automatically replace the short names
with a number as per their location in the text.

i am just seeing as what normally done in LaTex.

i find a way out...as following

Select the text in the reference section
Turn it into a numbered list
Right-click on the numbers and select "Bullets and Numbering"
Select the Numbered tab
Click on the "Customize..." button
Change the number format to [X] where X is the number appearing in the
window when you first opened it
Click OK until you've closed all the pop-up windows
Each of your references should now begin with [X] where X is a number
Put your cursor in the text where you want a numbered reference to
appear
From the Insert menu, select "Cross-reference..."
In the pop-up window that appears, you should have the list of
references that you just created
Select the correct reference and click on Insert
A numbered reference should appear where you had placed your cursor

but i still prefer to have my own short notation for reference in the
text for intial paper correction so that i would know which paper i am
talking about. i would finally like to build paper with notation
filled with the number...exactly the way LaTex does..sorry i was LaTex
user, but recently i have to use microsoft word as my boss does not
know abc of LaTex

I'm still not sure why you are going this roundabout way. If you create a
numbered reference list, you can insert a cross-reference to any reference
using Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to Numbered item. If you add new
references, the references themselves will renumber automatically, and the
cross-references will update when you update fields (at print time, for
example).
