Linked Tables Locking Up

I have a relatively small split database (<50,000 records). The users who
are located out of state and use VPN to access the server database have
client databases with data entry and inquiry forms that use linked tables. I
have an inquiry form with a query as a record source. The query uses a
linked table.

When the remote users try to load the form their systems lock up. Is this
due to VPN connections? Any suggestions or work-arrounds would be
appreciated.

Thanks!

MDB sucks-- every time something happens; these MDB kids 'blame the network'

the network isn't the problem

MDB is the problem; it is a crap database

Aaron,
I agree with you, however this is the platform I'm stuck with at this
client. I have repeatedly asked for permission (denied) to set up a sql
server database to do exactly what you suggested.

Thanks anyway.

A possible workaround would be to use Terminal Server or a similar product
like ThinSoft. Not only this should circumvent the VPN problem (for which I
have no solution nor do I understand why it's a problem but personally, I'm
not so surprised to see Access having a problem going over a network) but it
should also give your users a faster response time.
