Linked Table Manager does not list any tables in a DB.

I am confused. When I bring up the linked table manager, I do not see any
tables and paths listed. I have a split database. The front end table
object list does display an arrow by the table name and if I hover the curser
arrow over the table name, the path to the backend is displayed. But, if I
go to tools, Database Utilities, Linked Table Manager, nothing is displayed
in the window. Why is it blank?
