Link to new address

Hi All,
When I built my first webpage years ago, I bought "Teach Yourself HTML 3.0
in 24 Hours". Tedious, but it worked and I learned lots of good basic stuff.
Well, I'm trying to use FrontPage and I find it a little confusing. With
Comcast, you're allowed several email addresses and each address gets 25MB of
webspace. I've been going like gangbusters and now, I've exceeded my first
email address limit. How and where to I put the link to my next address?
Hopefully, what I've said makes sense! Thx in advance. Ellen

I don't see a link to any email address on your site so I have no idea what
you mean. If they give you multiple email addresses then just create a new
one and use that. If you used up your email address limit then change your
email program to NOT leave a copy on the server.

Hi David,
Hmm - I'm not saying it right. Comcast gives you 5 accounts with 25MB on
each account. The webpage is set up to default to the first account
(galarowicz), now I need to use another account (mean-ellen) because I've
exceeded my 25MB limit. Is that making sense at all? Ellen

D

David Berry

Oh. Ok. Then what you would do is put up new content on the second site
and on the first site just make the link go to the second site.

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

makes sense now.

however...you could cut your existing web size WAY down if you optimized
your images (cute kids btw) several that i looked at are over 250K each
these could probably be optimized down to 20k each without any noticible
loss in quality on the web AND would download much faster.

download IrFanview (its free) if you don't already have it...and use it to
batch process optimize your images.

Create a new web site for your next email address.
In both sites, in the navigation bar create links that go to the home
page of the other site.
If using the FrontPage navigation bars, this link will be an external
link - right click on the Home page in navigation view, and choose
"Existing page" or "External page" (depending on the version of
FrontPage in use.

Thank you David, Rob (Crash) and Ronx!! I think I can keep moving now. I'll
try building the next site and doing the link. Cross your fingers for me.

I have a program called Paint Shop Pro and looked for "optimizer" -- I
tested one pic and it went from 224 to 63 bytes without much loss in quality.
So, thanks for that suggestion, Rob (also for the complement on my cute
grandbabies! I think they are adorable, but I'm a LITTLE partial).

BTW, this forum is wonderful and the folks that reply to people like me in
FrontPage "distress" are superstars!!

Have a happy 4th! Ellen

I just downloaded IrfanView, and you're right - the batch conversion works
like a champ. My Paint Shop Pro converts them one at a time (I looked in
"Help" and didn't see a batch update). Thanks again. Ellen

Yer welcom.

Hey if you really wanna impress your family join YouTube and make your
gallery private, then put up videos of the grandkids. Then you can use links
provided by YouTube to embed in your website - up to 100 meg per
file!...streaming video with no overhead on your website.

Or if you want to keep just photos join the Kodak Photo Gallery, create an
"album" and then send them an invite to it. Then if they want to get a
print of the picture they can order one.

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

I like SmugMug: robosama.smugmug.com - you can even make a few bucks selling
images...or sell wholesale to the family. nice very nice.

(only one gallery is public at this time)

OK -- So much for your holiday. Now, when I try to publish a picture
gallery, I get the following : http://home.comcast.net/~galarowicz/2005.htm
... It makes it look like the gallery is there twice, but it really isn't.
This happend with my "newly shrunk" 2004 file. I kept deleting and
republishing and finally it worked. On the remote side, the gallery and file
are there that have the thumbnails and pics, so I don't know what I'm doing
wrong. What I've been doing:
1. Create file for the year (i.e. 2005)
2. Insert Web Component - Photo Gallery
3. Save
4. Publish (can I just click Publish and it will copy everything? I've
tried coping single pictures, directories, synchronizing)
5. Cross finger and click on link
6. Smile because it worked; or, snarl because it didn't!
Thx,
Ellen

You're missing the opening <html> tag at the top of the page...in code view.
At least I think that's why...because your gallery is there when I edit your
page...try putting that in then save the page...and re-Publish.

Don't use the Publish button...go to File | Publish Site

remember to Import your images into FP (usually to the IMages folder) then
use them in your design from there. And, don't use any of FP's image editing
options. You'll resize and optimize outside of FP with IrFanview or whatever
FIRSt.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR - I tried to add a couple photos to my 2004 page and I toasted
that one too. Whatever I'm doing, it's consistent (consistently wrong!). If
you look at the 2003 page, it has the html tag inside the "meta" line .. the
others do too. I haven't been importing my pictures though. I just copy
them to a file then creating the photogallery from there.

the <html> opening tag should be the very first thing on the code page.
both pages seem to be working now though.

import your images...but that has nothing to do with this.
