All of a sudden, when I open a file in Explorer, some of the content files
appear in blue. What gives??

Black is normal, blue is compressed and green is encrypted.
WinXP automatically compresses files that do not get used frequently.
You can alter this if desired in Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder
Options-View - "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color"

When you open a "folder" in Explorer, some of the "files" in that folder will be
in Blue because they are Compressed.

Others may be Green because they are Encrypted.

You can turn that color off if you choose, though it does serve a purpose to
have the files colored.

Tools>Folder Options>View

Scroll down near bottom and uncheck the option to show compressed or encryted
files in color.

Well - Bill Gates never ceases to amaze me. One of the many things I don't
understand is how these colors appeared. I haven't been in Tools/FO/View in
years.

Thanks all -

Disk Cleanup will compress old files, then they show as blue. Did you
run Disk Cleanup?
