Limewire

I am running win XP Home on the same home network with a WRT 54G Linksys
Router. The windows firewall settings are the same on each computer. For
some reason, my limewire 4.10 works on one PC and the other is blocked. All
the settings are the same!!! I am very good with computers and networking
and this one has me baffled...
Thanks,

Anyone who is "very good with computers" should know that Limewire is a
terrible thing to have on your computer.

I thought that Limewire has been spyware-free for a few years now. If
that's true and if the person "who is very good with computers" knows
about firewalls and viruses (and other malware), then I would imagine it
wouldn't be that terrible.

It amazes me that people think that firewalls and a/v is all that is needed.

I won't even go into how morally bankrupt one would have to be to take
things that don't rightfully belong to them. The *ONLY* reason P2P exists
is to facilitate thieves.

Please don't post back with any self-righteous indignation...anyone who uses
P2P steals; there are no exceptions.

That's not exactly what I said.

Knowledge is key. I don't have Limewire, so I'm not 100% sure. But I
understand that the recent version is free of spyware. *If* this is the
case, then that's a good first step, and the only problem vis-à-vis
damage to one's computer is downloading malware disguised as MP3s or
whatever other files this P2P app is used for. Enable the viewing of
extensions, immediately delete files which are clearly not MP3s (or
whatever), and scan everything else with an a/v app with the most
up-to-date definitions, and a computer user should not have to worry
about malware.

Now clueless newbies might very well not perform all the above steps.
For *them*, I would agree with the statement that "Limewire is a
terrible thing to have on your computer." But I disagree that the same
applies to "anyone who is very good with computers."

"self-righteous indignation"? When was the last time you've been outside
of your house, your town, your state, your country??? Travel anywheres
in the world and you can get copies of any app, song, game, etc. your
heart desires. Sure, it is copyright infringement but tell that to the people
that either sell them or copy them and you'll get a bullet between the eyes.
I agree that P2P is stealing, but there aren't enough jails/prisons in the
world to hold all that do. DRM will not stop those that want to profit
illegally.
I do not indulge but there are many that do and I am not one to stop them.
Self-righteous, no, but that is life - C'est la vie"
