Lexar Multi-Reader Problem

I have a Dell Dimension computer with Windows XP. When I connect my USB
Lexar Multi-Reader, I get the following message: "The drive is not ready for
use, its door may be open. Please check drive\Device\Harddisk 2\DR10 and
make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." When
the Lexar card is inserted in the reader, it is IMPOSSIBLE to close the door.
The card sticks out of the reader and the door will not close. What can I do
to solve this problem?

When I use my Lexar multi-card reader, it does not matter if the door is
open or closed. I plug it into the USB port without a card first. (door can
be open or closed, it is just a dust cover)
As soon as the hardware is recognized I insert the card to be read.
Under *My Computer* it is recognized as a *Device with removable storage*
it also triggers the opening of my photo editing software because I have set
it to "open with" this software.
If this is not how the device is working there may be something wrong with
the installation you did or USB port settings, Lexar does have technical
support available, check the Lexar site.
