Legality of installing XP onto ex HP XP puter?

Hey all,
I had a presario 6622au with XP that suffered HHD failure.
I installed a new drive, and dont have HP recovery discs, so I used my
Windows XP disc [part no. X10-59483] which is XP home with SP2 version 2002.
I also used the original HP rego to complete install, all fine.
My question is about the Activation? Is what I have done legal and can I go
ahead and activate it ?
Thnx for any info.

You will have to do the telephone activation. Once blessed, it will
pass WGA and all that stuff.

It's a VERY common situation, the call centers have GOT to do thousands
af these things a day.

Since you got over the hurdle of your XP Home accepting HP's product key (by
HP "rego" do you mean the product key?) during the install, it should
activate fine, either through the internet or a phone call.
