xp installation/partition

I have an HP Pavilion with Quick Play. This program should mean you can play
DVD/CDs without booting up. HOwever, we recently had to do an OS Reinstall on
the notebook which worked fine. However, the Quick Play didnt. This is
because, unbeknown to me, one has to partition the Drive and leave space for
the Quick Play program when one Reinstalls. When I put the Quick Play disc in
now it says it needs reserved space on the Drive which should be created at
the beginning of the OS install process. Does anyone know whether a partition
for this can be created AFTER Windows XP is installed, and if so, how do you
do it? I really dont want to have format the disc again...:(
any advice appreciated.

You did third party partitioning software.

Look at BootIt NG. You may get a fully functioning trial copy for 30
days. Study the help videos before you try it out. You may find using
the software testing. Partition Magic is simpler, more expensive and you
cannot get on a trial basis.

tks gerry. i stumbled accross something in the MS Knowledge Base about adding
partitions and wondered whether it as possible, but clearly not.
It may just be easier to live without the Quick Play. Shame though.

Hi L,

As Gerry suggested, BootIT NG will do what you need and in the free
trial period. Just make sure you have a backup, as things do sometimes
go wonky. It isn't a big deal for a utility like that to move the data
over to allow for another partition before it.

You can create two partitions if you do a new install. The problem with
the built in tools is that you cannot resize existing partions.

tks gerry. i think im going to go for the cowardly option and do nothing. Ill
fix it during the next format..if i dont have a new notebook by then. it
seems to me you end up having to format every couple of years anyway. I dare
say i can cope without Quick Play till then.

I use Partition Magic and can easily resize existing partitions. I also
looked at BootIT NG and the menu examples have a Resize button and it
isn't grayed out, so I would think resizing is possible, but I haven't
used it personally.
