MAX-007

My main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So
I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine.
But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for
XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have
problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail
then i no longer can receive in office mail client.

Does anyone know is it the bug of Vista Windows Mail?

Are you certain you have enabled that setting in Windows Mail?
Go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Advanced,
enable "Leave a copy of messages on server."
That setting must be enabled on both computers.

Hi,

In my (dutch) version of windows mail there is no function:
"Leave a copy of messages on server"
I looked for it on the place you describe, where you also expect it, but
none. Neither somewhere else.

I am not using pop, but IMAP.

It used to work perfect with windows xp and outlook express:
Mail comes in at internet server, than to Iphone and when home notebook with
outlook express was online, direct to notebook. And mail direct deleted from
server. When mail went via Iphone, mail was also deleted from Iphone when
imported in notebook.

No I have mail left on the server and Iphone when mail is imported in
windows mail....

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks, Mischa.

I'm sure that setting is enable.
Due to the vista account is inport from the XP outlook express, and I also
double check that. (the XP outlook express work fine that leave mail on
server function, but vista cannot. Is it the Vista Windows Mail BUG!)

I test it by sending a mail from my company webmail to myself email account,
I see that mail appear in my mail server with webmail client. Then I use
Vista Windows Mail that already emable the 'Leave mail on server' setting.
After the Vista Windows Mail recevied the mail. I using webmail to check the
server again, then the mail goen!.

Completely remove the account from WM after noting all the settings etc,
close WM, Open WM and rebuild the account.
You will not lose any mail in the process.

Hi,

I discovered it is a bug, or beter on purpose, not a option in Windows Mail.
So all your email will stay on the server.... and at your Iphone....

MS chat told me that leave/remove mail from server was an option in outlook
2003.... well I can not find it....
Anybody did?

If you have a POP email account, then you can probably leave the messages on
the server, if your account's server permits it. IMAP accounts do it by
design.

In Windows Mail/Live Mail
Tools - Accounts - youraccount - Properties - Advanced
[x] Leave a copy of messages on server
[x] Remove from server after [xx] days

This group doesn't support Outlook, but I'm sure it's available there also.

Tested, not work, same result!
Why that the same account data inport to XP outlook express can work, inport
to Vista Windows Mail then not work. That mean the Vista Windows Mail have
problem :(

Not all mail servers honor that setting.
Test it with a different mail server, such as the one from your ISP.

See my other post made a few minutes ago.
Windows Mail does not have a bug in this particular function, since it
works correctly for the overwhelming majority (99.9% ?) of users.

Do you clear what my case?
I use the same PC, same mail server, same ISP and same setting.
That why I use the XP outlook express work fine, but NOT in Vista Windows
Mail?
(I use a hard disk Rack Mount in C drive, so I can change the hard disk to
XP system hard disk or Vista system hard disk)

Do you clear what I told?
I use same PC (I have 2 hard disk with hard disk rack mount as C:, so can
change the system to XP or Vista), same mail server(my company), same ISP,
and same setting.
Why it work fine in XP outlook express but NOT in Vista Windows Mail client?

Sorry, I don't know why it works in XP for you but not in Vista. It works fine
for me in Vista. There is a possibility that your mail account in Vista is
partially corrupted. Delete that account in Windows Mail, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate that account.
