I'm not sure where you got the "Runs faster" bit but it will run perfectly
well and you do not have to fiddle with voltages or any other BIOS settings
(unless you want to overclock the card but let's not go there...)

There isn't really much benefit with AGP 8X anyway...

I just assumed that 4X was 1/2 the speed of 8X. But the bottom line,
then is that an 8X card will fit in a 4X slot, which would work for me
and explain your use of the card in your P4PE. I had merely assumed that
the 8X standard was a different type of slot. So if the 8X isn't twice
as fast as a 4X, what is its value?

Thanks, Martin

were running it on your P4PE mb.
Thanks for the article.

It may have twice the bandwidth available (i.e. data throughput), but if the
card doesn't need it, it doesn't do much good. As an analogy, think of it
as 8" and 4" pipes (the AGP interface). If you put a faucet (the graphics
card) on the end with a 2" outlet, it doesn't matter much if you use the 8"
or 4" pipe; the bottleneck is the faucet. The plan was as graphics cards
got faster and needed more bandwidth (a 6" faucet), then the 8x interface
would make a difference.

Sales, plain and simple. Make a new socket, lower the voltage on it,
make new graphics cards all at the lower voltage and convince people
they need to buy a new card when they buy a new board or vice-versa.

The problem with AGP 8x is that there isn't a card that'll max the
throughput of 4X.
