I have created a PP 2007 template. I have a Picture placeholder that i have
sent to the back of the master slide so that a line I drew would be in front
of the picture. However, when I actually use the template and put a picture
in to the placeholder, the line appears behind the picture, even if I send
the picture back. Is there a way to make sure the line, which is not a
placeholder but an object in the master slide, appears in front of the
picture? this is very frustrating > : [

I can't think of a way off the top of my head...unless...wait, maybe make
the line a placeholder, too. Make the line a picture (right-click, save as
PNG), then insert it into a picture placeholder on the master. Then it can
be moved on the slide like other placeholders.

Basically, as you have found, placeholders gravitate to the top layer of the
slide, and the other master graphics are behind them.

This cuts down the usefullness of my template almost entirely, as I need to
import hundreds of charts that end in a 'Total' bar that needs to be under
the line that runs throughout the rest of the slide. I either have to
manually put in every line now, or break every chart up into two parts.
neither of which are very easy to do.

Microsoft should definitely fix this issue. Objects should be able to stack
behind the template!

i can place a picture placeholder in the master sllide, but i can't actually
put a picture into that placeholder. the picture icon is faded and
unclickable. i have to use the template in an actual slide, and then, since
the line is so narrow, i have to expand, place picture, resize, and move
which is just as much a hassle as putting a new one in.

is there a way to insert pictures into the placeholders in master slide view?

Thanks for the help, btw!

Well, people wanted that for page numbers and footers -- they wanted to be
able to move those on top of a full-slide picture, for example. Now all we
see is complaints about the picture/footer placeholders being selected and
moved inadvertently...

I suppose my suggestion to put the total line in a (narrow) picture
placeholder isn't feasable for some reason? I had a similar situation with
quotation marks that people wanted to be able to move around on the slide.
So I saved the marks as images and put them in picture placeholders (on the
master) and the users can now move the quotation marks on the slide. Works
great.

Graphics on the masters cannot be moved on the slides. Placeholders can.

Graphics on the masters are on the bottom layer. Placeholders aren't.

You're absolutely correct. Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead -- I was thinking
more along the lines of, add a placeholder for the line to the master, make
a slide, add the line in the placeholder on the slide and move it into
place. Then copy the slide. Add the table (or whatever) to the copy. Repeat
for all slides.
