CHANGE USERNAME TO westes

I applied the five most recent Windows Updates for Windows 2000 today. Now
after rebooting when I log into Windows 2000, it just hangs. The computer
is responding to ping, but the Microsoft networking layer appears to be
hung. Attempts to view shares from other machines on the networks simply
hang as well.

I attempted to boot in "safe mode" and login as administrator. That also
hangs after the password is supplied and you hit OK.

At this point I have lost my machine. Is there any way to recover at this
point?

The exact patch that is hanging my system is KB840987. After uninstalling
that patch I am able to boot again.
