LATEST NETWORK PATCH

S

Sue

I don't know if anyone out there can help me - but I
received an e-mail from "Microsoft" saying that the
subject (Latest Network Patch) is a version of a security
update

This seemed 'safe' - so I proceeded to go thru the update
procedures for installation

Since I keep getting a pop-up 'constantly' that says

"An internal error has occured in module Map132.dll"
It asks me to fill in a bunch of info and when I do it
doesn't accept my version of SMPT server

I don't know what I did wrong, or even if I should have
downloaded this update .... when I re-boot my system I get
an error message that reads

"Memory access violation in module kernel32 at
5676.99319594" - then again it said kernel32 at
3267.88278151

Help????? Damsel in Distress!!!!! - Any advice - these
popups are a pain and I don't want my laptop to be prone
to any damage -

I'm sorry to say this Sue, but that was a virus that you installed and not
an update. Here is a website with some information about it
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]
You should update your anti-virus software and run a scan. If you are not
running any anti-virus software, you could try trend micro's online scan at
http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/enterprise.htm there may be a few more
steps that you'll need to take to get it completely removed, i'm not sure.

good luck

You have just installed the W32.Swen.A (also known as Gibe-F) worm. Please
go to http://www.sarc.com and download the cleaning tool (1/2 down and on
the right). Once you get your machine cleaned up, make sure you are running
antivirus software with the latest definitions.

Since you didn't mention what operating system you are running, I will
stress that you make sure that you are running the latest version of
Internet Explorer that your system supports and that latest Internet
Explorer update has been applied. (you download this yourself from
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

If you supplied a userid/password to that wonderful dialog, I urge you to
contact your ISP and change your password to your e-mail account.

Last but not least... Microsoft never ever sends e-mail to its customers
that include executable files.

Cheers,
/Neo
