Latest available version of Windows Messenger

S

Stefano Ferrante

My o.s. is WinXp Pro,

I have Windows Messenger 4.7.3001 version installed.

I am unable to find any newer version via windows update but Microsoft
Downloads site shows version 5.1 released on 16/09/2005.

Is it normal that it hasn't been yet released via windows update site? Or am
I missing something?

Thanks for your help,

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

I have the same version as you do and its not listed in my Windows Update.
I don't know if its normal or not, but just download from the Microsoft site.

Since it isn't a 'security' update, the 5.1 version of Windows Messenger
does not need to appear on WindowsUpdate to replace the 4.7.x version of
Windows Messenger.

If you need the added functionality found in Windows Messenger, you can
download the latest 5.1 version of Windows Messenger. If you don't, the
4.7.x version of Windows Messenger is up to date.

Download the latest version of Windows Messenger 5.1 here

Thanks Gary for your support.
Indeed that was my doubt...I wondered if there could be anything *important*
in the new version, although I have been used, until now, to continuously
finding new versions of software via the windowsupdate site ;-)

Now I will go looking for the new features you're talking about and see if
they can be useuful to me.

Thanks again for your help,
(and to anyone else who has replied,or will, to my post)

If you haven't already downloaded Windows Messenger 5.1, do so. I had
problems with 4.7 (it would hang if I tried to start a camera), which no
longer occur. Of course, I now have other problems!
