Large format recommendation

Tom Jacobson

I am considering purchasing a large format printer and would like
suggestions/comments on which are best.

Actually, I have very little knowledge of what equipment is available...so
any & comments and suggestions will be info for me to digest.
I would like to print on up to 36" wide material. I will be doing posters
and banners...so I need something capable of doing paper and canvas/banner
material.

Really al depends if you want printers for inside work or outside display.

For inside display, fine art and photo printing there are
Epson 9600: long lasting pigment inks
Epson 10600: same inks as above, but faster and more expensive.
HP5500: a real workhorse, very long lasting pigment inks available, generally
comes with dye inks

All are good printers.

Printers for outside work, these use a solvent based ink and are designed more
for the sign industry, I don't have a great deal of experience with these. The
printers are much more expensive than the above.

Roland Soljet: excellent company reputation
Mimaki JV4
Oce Arizona

All the printers are capable of running what you want, but you can't expect
outdoor permanance with the indoor printers, though with pigment ink you can
get a couple of months outdoors.
