Laptop & Wireless

I have a wired home network with a wireless access point for my wife's
work laptop which she ocassionally uses at home.

The laptop can connect to the internet just fine through the access
point but how do I get it to be part of my home network so that it can
share files, use a printer, etc.

I tried to set up a new network connection but with little success.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Two things that I ran into when trying to do something similiar.
1) If you're running a firewall (norton internet security, zonealarm,
etc.) make sure that the IP addess or range (if DHCP) are in the
"allowed" machines in the firewall
2) make sure that the ID your wife logs on with is also on the machine
you want to share files on (or if you don't care who gets to your
stuff, turn on the guest account..not the best idea).

Well, I'm not running any firewall. I find that the NAT in my router
is sufficient.

That leaves your second thought. How do I do what you are suggesting,
since I can't even set up a network connection for my network on her
laptop?????

Thanks for the suggestions but I can't do any of this stuff until her
work PC is recognized on my home network. I can't see how to get a
new network connection configured on her work PC. I get a message
this computer cannot be configured since it's al;ready part of a
domain.

Any ideas???

One doesn't set up any network connection, i.e., it uses the one and only
network connection that it currently uses to connect to the Internet. Just
because it is a domain member and the rest of your network belongs to a
workgroup is completely irrelevant to Windows networking. Use following
command to map drives or do it manually.

net use x: \\computername\sharename /user:computername\username <enter>

P.S. Never use the stupid networking wizard.

Pardon my ignorance but a couple of questions.....

Mapping a drive will allow it to be shared by other computers on the
network. I don't want to share a whole drive. A directory or two
perhaps but not a whole drive.

Mapping a drive will enable the PC whose drive is being mapped to be
seen/used by other PC's on the network, but how will IT get access to
other PC's shared directories and shared printers???

Mapping does nothing to enable the PC to access/use a shared printer
on the network. How do I do this.

Again, sorry for my ignorance, but if I don't tell the laptop what my
network name is, how can it get on the network??? Mapping drives is
one thing but how can I get the laptop to utilized my home network,
resources, printers, etc. just as the other PC's on my home network
already do??
