probably quitge a basic question.. i have recently bought a new laptop... i
have some questions about power management and the battery...
firstly and i have not tried it yet... can i run the machine without a
bbattery in it.. is there any advantage in doing so
secondly.... i wish to leave the laptop on overnight downloading a large
file eg. hl2.. what power management settings should i use.. i will leave
the monitor/ screen to go off after 1 min... have the options for hibernation
and standby... just don't want it to overheat overnight

you should be able to run the comp with no battery i think it just keep ur
battery healthier if you do.

you should be able to leave ur comp on over night. Just make sure the
moniter at least goes off and keep the hard drive etc options disable so it
dont leave ya mid thru the dl!

Providing you put the computer on a flat surface (like a table) that should
give it room to breathe all night and you'll be fine. If worse comes to worse
and ur comp over heats it will turn off but i doupt it will do that.

You don't want hibernation or standby, as they could disrupt your download.
If you put the computer in a well-ventilated location, the download should
not lead to overheating, as the CPU will not be working hard. By all means
use A/C power, as it is more reliable.
