Laptop only works in Safemode

I can bootup in safemode with no problem. However, when I try to bootup
normally it does not bootup normally. It takes 10 to 15 minutes for it to do
anything. The laptop is like going 5 miles per hour in 70 mph lane. I do not
remember adding anything to the the laptop (hardware or software). My
anti-virus software (symantec's) was removed some how and I can re-load it in
safemode. Does anyone have any tips for me to try??

Install, update and scan with the 2 programs below.

If unable to install in Normal Mode:
Reboot your computer, and go into "Safe Mode with Networking"
Install Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy, and update and scan while
there.

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

If unable to install above Programs in Normal Mode:
Sometimes Trojans, Viruses, Malware, etc stop you installing and/or updating
Programs to remove them.
If that happens, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking, and install, update
and scan from there.

Two things come to mind.

First is that the system is now infected, and you should remove the malware
before you install the A/V software. This is most easily done by attaching
the drive to another system, and this may mean you need help from someone
with the connectors and another system.

Second, very slow response can mean that the system drive is failing.

Try booting in safe mode, run msconfig and turn off all startup items. Also
remove all usb attachments, and remove any hardware that is not needed for
boot. Check how much memory is working.
