laptop not holding time

I just got my Toshiba Tecra S1 back from warranty work. One of the
problems was that the laptop was not holding the time when I close the
lid (standby?). The technician replaced the cmos battery but it still
doesn't keep the time. What else could it be?

Several things:

This sounds like a hardware problem. Sometimes when the battery is taken out
and replaced by a less than expert repair person, the battery holder is
shaken around enough to break the connection with the motherboard.

Or (and check your manual very thoroughly) the battery could be placed in
backwards. Do NOT just flip the battery around as this could cause other
undesired effects.

The battery was placed in backwards and you are seeing an undesired effect.

Any of these could be the problem. I would return the system to who ever did
the warranty work and have them finish repairing the problem. Or call your
computer's manufacturer for help.

Thanks guys. It did not solve the problem though.

The problem just started all of a sudden. About a week before I took
my laptop in. At that point, the tech replaced the CMOS battery.
Therefore I don't think its a problem with the battery.
