laptop crashes periodically

Periodically my laptop crashes and then when it is rebooted I get a message
that windows has a corrupt file (system32\drivers\ntfs.sys). To repair the
file we are to use the setup CD rom. We do not have a setup disk as the
machine came with windows on it. Is there any way to do this without the
setup disk? Thank you for your help.

Hi Ron,

Check for an I386 folder on the hard drive, this is where the manufacturer
probably put the needed files. You need to expand a replacement from there.

Hi Rick,
Thank you very much for your help. I have found the i386 file and the
system 32 folder in that file. I am not sure how to expand it. After it is
expanded how do I get it to repair the corrupted file?

Hi,

When you expand a file, you do so to replace/overwrite an existing file. To
expand one, click start/run, type MSCONFIG and click ok. Check the general
tab for the button to initiate this process.
