Language problem in Office XP

M

Mary

I have a Dell laptop bought in the USA - I am in the UK.

I have a problem that the spell check in Word XP seems to default to
English US not English UK.

I have set the default language as English UK and turned off 'Detect
language automatically'.

I have also made the normal.dot default language English UK.

However, with most old documents I open or documents that people send
me Word seems to want to check it in English US, even if I reset the
language to UK.

All I want is for Word to spell check every document in English UK
irrespective of the origin.

Is this possible????

Any help appreciated.

Mary,

Did you also change the Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel
to English UK? I don't know if a mismatch between those settings and the
settings in Word would cause the behavior you are seeing, but it might be
worth checking.

You also might try posting your question in one of the Word groups and see
if someone there knows what is causing this to happen.

Good Luck,

Mike

Your copy of MS Office is using the US English spelling dictionary.
You'll need to install the international English copy. Run the
installation program from the MS Office or Word CD and choose the
international English option.
