Language bar problem

Alan Nordin

Hello,

Something is automatically turning on language bar whenever the PC
starts up. I turn it off, and the next time I start up, there it is again.
Or perhaps when I turn the PC off the change isn't made permanent. I'm
running XP SP3 up-to-date and Norton Internet Security.

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks,
Alan

Rather than turning off the language bar, you need to *disable* it:

Daave,

Thanks for the reply! I followed the instructions in the link provided. {By
the way, Norton advised me the site contained the virus 'adware.lop'.} I
also followed the MS instructions for disabling CTFMON.EXE {kb 282599}. I
will let the group know if this resolved the problem.

Thanks,
Alan

Daave,

The fix, or should I say 'work around', worked.

Perhaps you, or someone else, can help me with another settings related
problem. Intermittently my desktop settings {theme & font) and sound scheme
are reset to defaults when I restart the PC. I think this is happening
sometime during startup as I do NOT hear the standard windowd goodbye music
when it shuts down or the standard windows welcome music when it starts up.

This is not related to CTFMON, as it just occurred when I restarted the
machine to test the fix. It did not occurr this morninig when I first turned
the PC on though it has occurred when the PC is first turned on in the past.

Thanks,
Alan

Sorry,

I should explain, my preferred sound sceme is no sound at all. So by not
hearing the windows shutdown and startup music, I assume that the sound
scheme is being reset sometime between the time the startup music should
play and when the desk top first appears after startup.

I don't follow. If you chose "No Sounds" for your Sound Scheme, why
would you expect to hear music?

FWIW, here are my settings:

Sound scheme: [empty] (I did *not* select "No sounds")

Desktop Properties: Themes: Theme: Windows XP

AFAIK, those *are* the defaults.
