LAN & internet

We have a strange problem.
We have a system using Win Xp pro and connected to the office network(LAN -
workgroup). Recently we installed a ADSL modem on the system for a broadband
connection. from then on, my system is not connecting to the LAN but the
internet is working fine. Actually ping command is getting a reply from other
systems but we cannot see the other systems on 'view workgroup computers' or
'Search computes'

I get the error message as " The list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available" However we notice that the 'computer browser' services
are shown as started.

If i follow the follwing steps, the system is connecting to the LAN as well
as to the internet.
1) Uninstall the 'Client for Microsoft network'
2) restart the computer and
3) Again install the 'Client for Microsoft network'
But when I shutdown my system again in the evening, the next day it will not
connect and i have to repeat the same steps.

I tried installing the Modem on another laptop and now I have the same
problem in that system too.

Can someone help with it?

How is the ADSL modem connected? Is that feeding through a router or a
server acting as router? Is it only your machine having this problem?

It is connected through an USB port.
It is listed under"dial up" in view network connections.
Yes. Only this machine is not connecting to the LAN. other machines are
connecting to each other.
